چکیده

S. H. ROBINSON (Boston) described a new experimental technique for studying the early labelled component of bilirubin in the ligated bile duct of the Gunn rat. Using 14C bilirubin he measured the total miscible bilirubin pool. In addition, the rate of bile pigment formation following the administration of 2-14C glycine was estimated. This allowed precise assessment of bilirubin and haem production. The early labelled peak accounted for 15% of all labelled pigment. Experiments with isolated perfused rat liver showed that the liver was a major source of the early labelled pigment.

Separation by thin-layer chromatography and structure elucidation of bilirubin conjugates isolated from dog bile.

1. A system for separation of bile pigments by t.l.c. and for their structure elucidation is presented. Separated bile pigments are characterized by t.l.c. of derived dipyrrolic azopigments. 2. At the tetrapyrrolic stage hydrolysis in strongly alkaline medium followed by t.l.c. demonstrates the presence of bilirubin-IIIalpha, -IXalpha and -XIIIalpha and allows assessment of their relative amoun...

Evaluating the Beneficial and Detrimental Effects of Bile Pigments in Early and Later Life

The heme degradation pathway has been conserved throughout phylogeny and allows for the removal of a pro-oxidant and the generation of unique molecules including bile pigments with important cellular functions. The impact of bile pigments on health and disease are reviewed, as is the special circumstance of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. In addition, the importance of promoter polymorphisms in th...

36. Coupled Oxidation of Ascorbic Acid and Haemoglobin 5. Studies on the Formation of Bile Pigments from Choleglobin and Verdohaemochromogen and on Their Isolation from Erythrocytes1

IN a preliminary paper [Lemberg, Legge & Lockwood, 1938] we have already reported the isQlation of biliverdin (dehydrobilirubin) and of biliviolin from. choleglobin solutions. Under remarkably mild conditions haemoglobin is thus transformed. into bile pigments; these conditions are such as are found in the cells of organs forming bile pigment, except that acid was used for the removal of the ir...

Studies on the determination of bile pigments. III. Standardization of the determination of urobilinogen as urobilinogen-aldehyde.

Several preparations of urobilin and stercobilin were investigated with regard to their value as standards for the determination of urobilinogen and urobilin in biologic specimens. Products of commercial origin were found to be impure and therefore unsuitable for this purpose. Absorptivities were measured for solutions of the pigments in 3% FICI in methanol and for the chromogens, obtained by f...

The three serum bile pigments in obstructive jaundice and hepatitis.

Many workers have observed that in obstructive jaundice and hepatitis hyperbilirubinaemia is due mainly to a rise in those pigments which give a " direct " reaction in the van den Bergh test. Cole, Lathe, and Billing (1954) have shown that there are two water-soluble pigments which give this reaction. They appear to be chemically related to bilirubin, but their exact structure is still unknown ...
